July 03 HKSAR 10th Anniversary1st July 2007 marks the 10th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). It's such a special occasion, they even have a theme song for it. It's quite a nice song. You can listen to it here. For me, it's a happy day cos I get a public holiday on Monday. No work....woo hoo..... Anyway, there was a fireworks display scheduled at night to mark the joyous occasion. And since I had nothing better to do on a Sunday evening, decided to join in the fun. And since my office was opening up their doors to let us watch the fireworks and that means avoiding the crowd I didn't mind that much going. And it was worth every minute. I mean the fireworks were not the normal ones that we usually see. It was truly amazing. They had fireworks that look like shooting stars, blooming flowers and streamers. There were even chinese writing (although I don't know what was written My Beautiful Office....cool isn't it? My cubicle is on the 38th floor....so high up...whee... The next day since it was a public holiday decided to go with my friends to Lantau Island. Well, the special attraction over there is the beach, their family trail and the yummy seafood. But we decided not to spend time at the beach cos it was way too hot and we knew the place was gonna be crowded. So we chose to walk the family trail. It was totally a bad idea...for me anyway...cos I'm not a jungle trekking kinda person. Walking a flight of stairs is bad enough for me. To go up and down hills and valleys....that's like soooo crazy. Not my idea of a fun outing. And it was super duper hot!!! And just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, it started to rain....it was like really really sunny and suddenly it got all dark and gloomy and the rain poured down. We ran like crazy down the hill. I could actually see the place we were supposed to be at but there juz wasn't a way to get down there other than the crappy long trail. Sighz....I was kinda wishing some one would build a slide halfway and I could just slide down all the way without walking. But in the end, amidst all my grumbling, we managed to reach the end of our trail and the best part was, a yummy seafood dinner was waiting for us. So it wasn't that bad after all. Though, I'm not going to walk the trail again. Next time I'll just take the ferry straight to the seafood place and not stop on the opposite side of the island and having to trek all the way. Haha. I'm so devious. Crowd enjoying the beach on a warm and sunny day... Erm...factories beside the beach??? How come everyone seems to be enjoying themselves? Aren't these people afraid of pollution? Oh My God!!! The trail is super steep!!! Help Me!!!! My legs are going to break!!!! More steep and winding roads.... Wow, how did I manage to trek so high up? Worth the climb to see this beautiful scenery... Rain... Yummy, yummy seafood.... Spicy Lala Black Pepper Prawns Fried Calamari June 04 Why is My Blog in Chinese?Aargh!!! Opened my blog today and noticed that it has gone horribly wrong...all the headings are in Chinese!!! Aargh!!! Which chinese monster has weaved a spell on my blog and making so weird? I DON'T UNDERSTAND CHINESE!!! HELP ME!!! Sighz....or maybe it's a sign that I need to start learning chinese since I'm now in HK. I've managed to adapt to the culture of seeing all signs in chinese....seeing chinese newspaper everywhere...browsing through chinese magazines (though I don't understand a word...juz looking at the pretty pictures) BUT I'm certainly NOT NOT READY to have my blog totally transformed with chinese characters. April 06 Things I Notice About Hong Kong1) It can be very hot one day...and freezing cold the next...
2) People stand on the right side of the escalator instead of the left....I must have annoyed many people who were rushing to go up the escalator....
3) The electrical sockets don't have a switch so it feels a bit dangerous to me...
4) They have all kinda cartoons dubbed into Cantonese...somehow Scooby Doo in cantonese doesn't seem as interesting...I still prefer the original English version...
5) It gets bright very early in the morning...the first day of work I thought my alarm was wrong and I was late....it was actually only 6.30 am in the morning.....
6) Their MTR is really, really long...and can fit really a lot of people....and there are really a lot of people in Hong Kong....and as usual I keep banging into everyone when I walk...not on purpose ah...it's juz too crowded...tee hee...
7) The exit to the MTR can be super super far away....they even hv travelalors on the MTR....felt like I was at the airport......and as usual...the important to remember is...stand at your right hand side....
8) Hong Kong people are very polite...they'll greet you when u enter their shop....although some will give u an unfriendly look if you don't buy anything...
9) Hong Kong people are also very helpful...really thank the hotel employee who helped drag my luggage bag to my room....kinda pity him ler cos my bag is really super duper heavy....haha....
10) Everyone dresses up really well in the office....guys wear suit....not sure if it's because of the cold weather or it's their office culture to be so formal.
11) There are really lots and lots of shopping places...woo hoo...it's like heaven for me...the shopping queen....retail therapy really works here...haha....although at the moment I'm a bit broke....so have to stick to window shopping...which is fun but of course not as fun as buying....
12) The streets are very bright...even at night everywhere is brightly lit so it looks very safe....don't feel afraid to walk home from the MTR at night.
13) The whole place is very clean....can hardly find any rubbish on the streets....
14) Their Guardian is called Mannings.....
15) Their movie ticket is very expensive....at around HKD60....guess I won't be watching any movies in Hong Kong...but then again..the shopping more than make up for it...wuahahhaa....
March 07 RebondingJust went and rebonded my hair today. Couldn't stand the way my hair was sticking out here, there and everywhere any longer so decided to deal with it once and for all. Went to the salon that I've frequented a few times. My hairdresser is quite yau ying...haha...partly the reason why I've been soooo loyal to that salon rite...... December 31 Goodbye 2006 Hello 2007It's the time of the year again for reflection...in just a few hours 2006 would have come and gone and it would be the start of a new year once again. Everyone loves a bright new start but let us not forget that it is not how we start the race that is important, it is the journey that we embark on that will determine how well we do in life.
For me, new year's resolutions can barely pass the week before they are forgotten. But since I put it in my blog last year, I had no excuse of not being able to remember what my 2006 new year's resolutions are. Well, I can hardly be proud of my achievements in 2006. I just looked at my list, and I'm like so shocked....I've only managed to fulfill one of my plans which is to go for a trip out of Malaysia. Sigh, I can't believe I've wasted the whole of 2006. Of course 2006 hasn't been the greatest year for me but I believe that it is the platform for greater things to be in store for me in the future. Someone once said that we would never know the meaning of happiness if we've never been sad before. So I'm looking forward to lots of happiness in 2007. 2007 is going to be a great year for me with God beside me all the way.
To my family and friends out there, let us look forward to a new year ahead. May 2007 bring joy and happiness to you. December 16 DreamI had such a romantic dream this afternoon.....but now i can't remember any of it.....sigh.....hopefully can still have the same dream tonight. It's like such a good story, set in olden times....I just remembered we were on a wagon together, running away from evil people who want to catch us...it was so exciting and exhilarating. Why can't I remember the rest??? Aargh!!!!
Maybe I have go back to sleep.....hehe....excuse for me to sleep early....... December 10 Marriage - To Be Married or Not To Be Married....That Is The Question.....Haha.....I dunno what prompted me to write this blog....partly due to ppl saying I never update my blog often enough....so just had to think of a topic to write on....and VOILA....out came this topic...or maybe it's the stupid biological clock in my body ticking away and reminding me that it's time for me to look for the special someone.....
Hmm....how come I still don't have that special someone in my life yet? Everyone keeps telling me that I put my expectations too high and that's why I can't find anyone. Somehow, I don't believe this is so. Am I supposed to settle for someone less than perfect just because time is running out? I mean I'm going to spend my lifetime with this person and I don't think that I should just simply make a decision that I may regret later on. I guess I'm a very risk-aversed kind of person. Maybe it's not a good thing....maybe I tend to weigh the pros and cons too much until I miss out on ever being involved in a relationship.
Or probably I've seen many marriages that end up in quarrels that my faith in marriage is very low. What is marriage actually? I feel that marriage is on one hand quite selfish? Why do people get married? To have a companion in our old age? To have kids? Because of love? All these point to one thing only and that is ME ME ME. I don't want to be lonely when I'm old so I get married. I want to have kids so I get married. I want love so I get married. Do people get married for reasons than for themselves? I just can't see it. For those who can, maybe you can enlighten me on this.
Deep down I'm also afraid of getting hurt. I think I've hidden my feelings so long that I've gotten accustomed to it and therefore always hide my true feelings in front of people I'm not particularly closed to. So I guess in the end I portray an Ice Queen personality. Sigh....I just can't help it.
I really dunno what I'm crapping about. Feel sleepy d.....I wanna zzzzz a while. Please dun take my blog seriously. Must be my tired brain crapping all the way.
Btw, am going to make Miso Soup tonight. Hope it turns out well.....my first time cooking....tee hee....wish me luck.
October 25 Am I Anti-Social?My fren juz commented that I spend too much time on the net...he said that I don't have a life...it's unhealthy...dat is sooooo sad....i feel like crying....haha....NOT....is surfing the net UNHEALTHY? I don't think so....I love the net....and it doesn't mean I'm anti-social...i do talk to a lot of people online....so i dun think i can be considered anti-social. Yeah, talking on MSN is of course different than face to face conversations...no doubt that is important....but sometimes talking through the net has its advantages. At least you can think before you speak. If you are right in front of the person, whatever you're thinking shows immediately on your face. For example, let's say you are really irritated with this person who's talking crap....if you're face to face with that person, your facial expression will immediately change.....and you'll probably scream at him/her....but if you're on MSN...you can just scream at the computer screen....and then still write calmly....haha....see how great MSN is....well it doesn't say much bout honesty....but then again....sometimes its better to keep our cool....cos usually we regret the things that come out of our mouth....MSN gives us the chance to think things through before saying it....
So to my fren who said surfing is unhealthy......too bad.....it's my LIFE....hahaha......and I dun like to socialise cos I hate crowds...there u have it...i've said what's on my mind....TOO BAD........ October 15 Planes and II just don't get it...why is my fate with planes so downright bad? I mean not that I bear any grudges on planes whatsoever, its just so funny that everytime I need to catch a plane...I'm sure to be in some kinda drama. Why???? Don't believe me...read on...
Plane Drama No 1
On my trip to Netherlands, I was stopped by the airline check in counter who requested for the credit card that I used to purchase my airline ticket. Apparently, there were too many fraud cases going around and they need to verify my identity. The great part is, I left my credit cards at home...come on...I'm going on holiday ok...don't want to be carrying so many cards with me. So had a brief tiff with the airline officer but luckily managed to settle it in the end and I had a great holiday in Netherlands. Phew! [Note: Do remember to bring ur credit cards to the airport next time]
Plane Drama No 2
On my trip back from Netherlands, my plane was delayed for over 3 hours....and just when I needed to be back home early to go for my dentist appointment. According to the pilot, there was some engine problem which needed to be sorted out. Talk about luck. Poor me have to wait for 3 hours in the airport. Luckily they have some duty free shops to entertain me but then again wasn't in the mood to shop cos my teeth was hurting like hell.
Plane Drama No 3
On my trip back from Kuantan, I arranged with the cab to come pick me up at 5.30 am cos I need to catch a flight at 6.50 am to get back to KL on time for my course. The great thing was the cab driver couldn't find the way to the house and he couldn't call me cos my hand phone ran out of battery. At 5.35 am, I had no choice but to use my friend's hp to call the guy. That's when he told me he was kinda lost and asked me to wait for him at some supermarket. So I ran all the way to the supermarket with all my luggage. Mind you, the supermarket is not that near. Unfortunately, the cab driver wasn't there so I had no choice but to drag all my luggage back to the house to call him again. Apparently, the particular supermarket is everywhere in Kuantan and he was waiting at another branch. So had to tell him to wait at the branch near the house and there I went huffing and panting to the supermarket once again. I think I nearly had a heart attack. But luckily managed to get to the airport on time.
Plane Drama No 4
On my trip back from Kuantan again, we left the office a wee bit late at 5 pm when the flight was scheduled at 6 pm. The worst part was, Kuantan roads are all single lane and it was just so impossible to overtake the car that is crawling in front. But luckily we managed to get to the airport at around 5.45 pm. Unfortunately, we found out that our luggage was not there yet cos had arranged for someone else to send over the luggage as the car was not big enough to fit 5 luggage bags. Got scolded by the airline officers for taking our own sweet time checking. Hey, it's not our fault. We couldn't check in cos our bags were missing in action. When our luggage arrived, we just ran through to the departure hall. As my bag was not that big, I had no choice but to carry it on board. So the bag had to go through the X-ray machine. I was rushing like crazy that I just left my bag at the counter and ran straight on. All my colleagues were laughing at me for being so blur. Hey, it's not my fault k...my mind was on the ultimate objective...which is to get to the plane on time.
Am I cursed or what? What does the airline have against me??? August 31 Treasure Hunt 2006Dun hv time to blog....so it's just photos this time.

On the ferry to Pangkor Island
Pretending to be cool...actually was feeling sick on the ferry...hehe...
Enjoying the Pangkor Island sea breeze August 12 FS DayHad a great day yesterday...well, not working would have already made by day but the day came with extras as well:
a) Fun Paintball Session at NPNG (For those who are wondering what NPNG stands for, it means No Pain No Gain....very appropriate name, don't you think?
b) Yummy Lunch at Marche @ The Curve
c) Movie @ Cineleisure
d) Other free goodies
Wasn't that nice? Anyway, the day started with the paintball session. We were divided into different teams and the objective of the game was to slaughter the opposing team and grab the flag in the middle of the field. The thought of wearing those stinky protective gear (I mean, how many sweaty bodies have already touched those things and I'm supposed to put them on? Yucks....
San San driving us to NPNG
After a tiring game of paintball
After a tiring and painful game (No Pain No Gain), we went to have lunch at Marche. It was a cute place with different stalls set up like a market and we get to order whatever we like from those stalls. I had a lamb shank, mushroom soup, waffle with toppings (which cost me 2 stamps...though the waffle was super yummy...still feel cheated by it...hehe) and maple walnut ice-cream. Yummy, yum, yum.

Pretending that I like kitchens....hahah....
How I felt after my lunch...
Movie came next after a satisfying lunch. Though I was feeling kinda sleep cos of my full tummy and I planned to take a snooze in the cinema. But the movie (Click) was super funny dat I had no choice but to stay awake. The story was about this guy (acted by Adam Sandler) who was given a universal remote control that he could use to control his life. Click and he could fast forward his life to after his promotion...Click another time and he could fast forward the fight he had with his wife...Click and he could miss those boring family gatherings and get back to his work) But he later found out that doing so has some consequences and living life on Auto-Pilot is not that great after all. Work is after all not the most important thing. What an appropriate show for auditors like us who work until super late and miss out on all family and friends gathering. Hopefully, the bosses who watch the show will get the meaning and ensure that we have some kinda work life balance.
I was super tired after the movie, really felt like dozing off but then the rest of my friends wanted to have more fun. So we made our way to 1 Utame to have a game of bowling. It was my second time bowling...and the first time I played, I was the Queen of the Gutters. So you can sense my enthusiasm at the thought of displaying my skills at the bowling alley...but then I thought...what the heck...juz go and have some fun ler. We split ourselves into 2 groups (14 in each team) and had a tournament whereby the loser has to treat the winner. I was thinking, oh great....I'm going to make my team lose. But I dunno what happened yesterday....must be beginner's luck or something like dat.....I scored 98 points. Not bad for a beginner like me rite....I was super esctatic when I scored a strike. Haha...I'm a non-sports person so winning any game is like a miracle to me.

So the day ended pretty well. Tiring but a fun day nonetheless. July 23 Satisfying SaturdayHad a really satisfying Saturday. Of course the wonderful day started with waking up late...
After the rain stopped and I woke up, went to KLCC to collect my Canon Ixus IIs digital camera. I sent it in for service 2 weeks ago cos it was a bit spoilt as you can see from the quality of photos taken and the cover of the camera looks as if it has gotten leprosy. Yucks!! The great thing was, I went to collect it yesterday and the person told me the repairs are FREE! Can you believe it? Who said there's no free lunch in the world? It does happen when you use Canon cameras. I was actually quite disappointed with Canon for some time cos my camera was less than 2 years old and already it had so much problems. But Canon's customer service saved the day. I
Canon Rules!!!
Anyway, after that I went for a fun steamboat party with my OCBC colleagues. First of all, we watched Ice Age 2 cos it was still early. The show is really and truly funny. For those who haven't watch it, do watch it, it'll make your day.
We started preparing for the dinner after the show. I was in charge of cutting the vegetables. To think that a girl who has never cooked in her entire life can cut such beautiful vegetables. I'm a born chef. Haha, just kidding. Joey was in charge of making the yummy tom yam soup using the chicken stock soup prepared by Ying Mei. Winnie helped to get out all the stuff from the fridge and prepared beautiful cutlery for us to use. Since the rest of the people have yet to arrive, we decided to decorate the food. Better presentation means better appetite. Look at the mouth-watering results.
Yummy Yong Tau Foo
Fish balls, Shitakke mushrooms, crab stick and scallob balls
Sui Kow, Shittake mushrooms and crab sticks all arranged prettily like a flower arrangement
Ying Mei posing with our masterpiece
Me amazed at the amount of food and can't wait to get started
The leftovers
Looking contented after a satisfying meal
After our wonderful dinner, we still had room for dessert. Yummy rum & raisin ice-cream from Haagen Daz with a dash of Ol' Bailey's irish cream. Aah...happy and satisfied... June 23 Hope is an Olive LeafYesterday an amazing thing happened. I was feeling miserable and bored and Max Lucado's book titled A Love Worth Giving just happened to be near my bedside. So I just grabbed it to have a browse to ease my boredom. The book just opened on a page on which was written "Hope is an olive leaf - Evidence of dry land after a flood. Proof to the dreamer that dreaming is worth the risk". My heart gave a little skip as I have been low on hope these past few days. The amazing thing was the reference to the word dream cos my blog is themed Sherry's Dream. And I have been writing my dissappointing stories here. I just felt comforted because God seems to have heard me and is giving me an olive leaf - a hope that things will turn around soon.
To those who are low on love, I truly recommend this book. It's a great book and I really like Max Lucado's style of writing. Easy to understand and have many real life examples to illustrate a point.
Love...always hopes.
I Corinthians 13.7 NIV
June 22 Sick, sick, sick...I'm feeling so sick, sick, sick. Doctor gave me loads of medicine which I've just taken.
1 antibiotic
2 panadols
1 flu pill
1 vitamin c
2 teaspoon of cough mixture
So I'm feeling drowsy and hot now....
Can get a good night's rest tonight. No waking up early tomorrow. June 21 Miserable...I'm feeling super miserable now...a stuck nose...an itchy throat...an aching body...
down...
down...
I try to get out from feeling this way but when I'm all alone in my room...it's just so difficult. I just feel so isolated and lonely. Wish my sis was here so I can talk to her. June 19 My Sister's WeddingMy sister had her wedding yesterday. The day started off great with great weather...a good sign that the day will turn out great. Jas (my sister's make-up artist) came super early to prepare my sis for her big day. One great thing bout Jas is her boyfriend. I've never ever seen a more patient guy in my life. The guy can practically sit in his car and wait for her to finish doing all the make-up which could mean hours of just staring into space and getting fried by the sun. Amazing guy...really have to salute him. Eh, guys, good example to follow. Anway, I'm digressing...tee hee... Jaz did beautiful makeup for my sis and a great hairstyle to match. Pretty pink and peach roses in her hair to complement the hand bouquet. Overall a simple and sweet looking combination. Too bad I don't have any photos to put in. Will update this blog with pretty photos once the cameraman develops the photos. My bro-in-law (Eric) arrived soon after...making super loud noise...normal occurence in a chinese wedding. Then the bullying starts. Well I couldn't join in the fun cos I was apparently born in the wrong year and thus it's bad luck to be involved in any weddings this year. So I had to hide in my room the whole time. Talk bout luck.
Chee Muis: Give us ten reasons why you want to marry Jin Yee?

Chee Muis: Do something romantic!
Eric: Ok...can....I'll sing....
[Eric and Heng Tais sings a Chinese song...which I do not know how to translate into English...
Eric and Heng Tai: Enough oredi...we are coming in....late oredi....
[Comes into the house and bangs on the bride's room door]
Chee Muis: If wanna come in must show your sincerity.

Chee Muis: We want Visa/Master cards....to swipe as we please....

Chee Muis: Frequent flier miles card??? Woi...u ppl understand English or not? Visa/Master ler....
Eric: Ok ler...give them the ang pau...late oredi....
[Door open and big crowd rushes in. Eric kisses bride.]
After that came the 'cham cha' ceremony and photo session and off goes the bride to the groom's family. And thus came the time for me to get some well needed rest.
Woke up at 3 pm to prepare for the wedding dinner. Suddenly realised I don't have a strapless bra to go with my gown. Oh the horrors!!! And time was running out cos I had to be at the hotel at 4pm to get my make up and hair done. So quickly had my shower and asked my dad to drop me at KLCC. Fastest shopping I've ever done. Was out of KLCC in 10 mins time. Super expensive bra that was. Anyway, managed to reach the hotel on time. Had my make up and hair done. Then went down to help out with the registration counter. Guests started to pour into the grand ballroom which caused a slight confusion at the registration counter. But managed to get everyone seated although exceeded the time a bit. Wedding dinner started with the arrival of the bride and groom into the hall. The groom looking resplendent in his black suit and the bride looking dazzling in her white wedding gown. The princess with her prince. Both together representing a picture of happy every after. The dinner started soon after. Halfway through the dinner, the bride and groom went up on the stage for the cake cutting and champagne pouring. The bride and groom were feeling very tensed when champagne pouring time came. Hey, with 1,000 pairs of eyes on you...who wouldn't be? Thus caused the most eventful thing throughout the night. The clinking of champagne glasses tumbling down from their tower filled the suddenly silent ballroom. Well, the chiming noise of champagne glasses hitting against each other has always been associated with creating a festive feel to events, and brought to mind the 'safe' feeling of church bells. So, the collapsing tower may not be a bad thing but could signify a great life for the beautiful couple. I would like to take the opportunity to wish all the best to the new couple. Ah-Cheh and Eric, may you have a great and happy life together.
![]() June 17 No ElectricityNo electricity at my house yesterday...and just when I want to watch the movie I am Sam...TNB just knows exactly when to cut off electricity at people's houses...the last time there was no electricity at my house was just before my exam in May. Hmm...wonder what is happening with TNB...how come the electricity goes off all the time? And I thought that they are increasing the electricity charges. So, there should be better service right. But guess this just isn't the case. Maybe TNB thinks that they want to help us save electricity...cut off the power and we won't be using electricity so that means lower bills come end of the month. |
