HKSAR 10th Anniversary

1st July 2007 marks the 10th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). It's such a special occasion, they even have a theme song for it. It's quite a nice song. You can listen to it here. For me, it's a happy day cos I get a public holiday on Monday. No work....woo hoo.....

Anyway, there was a fireworks display scheduled at night to mark the joyous occasion. And since I had nothing better to do on a Sunday evening, decided to join in the fun. And since my office was opening up their doors to let us watch the fireworks and that means avoiding the crowd I didn't mind that much going. And it was worth every minute. I mean the fireworks were not the normal ones that we usually see. It was truly amazing. They had fireworks that look like shooting stars, blooming flowers and streamers. There were even chinese writing (although I don't know what was written )and the numbers 2007 and 2008. Wow can't imagine how they do that. How do they tell the fireworks to form those shapes. Must have some special effects fireworks master at hand. Wow Wow Wow! Too bad cos I was behind a glass window. So didn't manage to take any photos that day. Well since I already brought my camera that day, decided to snap some photos of my office. Post one photo here.

My Beautiful Office....cool isn't it? My cubicle is on the 38th floor....so high up...whee...

The next day since it was a public holiday decided to go with my friends to Lantau Island. Well, the special attraction over there is the beach, their family trail and the yummy seafood. But we decided not to spend time at the beach cos it was way too hot and we knew the place was gonna be crowded. So we chose to walk the family trail. It was totally a bad idea...for me anyway...cos I'm not a jungle trekking kinda person. Walking a flight of stairs is bad enough for me. To go up and down hills and valleys....that's like soooo crazy. Not my idea of a fun outing. And it was super duper hot!!!  It's definitely the first and last time I'll walk the family trail. Was supposed to take 1 1/2 hours. At first we kinda got lost but some kind locals pointed us to the right direction and we managed to reach some resting area and I heard my friend saying that there's 15 minutes left to the trail. Wow, was I happy to hear that. Hmm....15 more minutes...that's not that bad....and we continued walking and climbing hills and walking and climbing hills until we reached an ice-cream stall. My friends stopped by to buy ice-cream and while we were resting I juz kinda ask my friend they must have made a mistake on the trail cos the 15 minutes seem like such a long way and lo and behold my friend told me the wonderful news. Erm, it's 50 minutes....not 15 minutes....Aargh!!! And here was I thinking that we were kinda reaching our destination but in actual fact it was still a long long long way to go. Crapz....

And just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, it started to rain....it was like really really sunny and suddenly it got all dark and gloomy and the rain poured down. We ran like crazy down the hill. I could actually see the place we were supposed to be at but there juz wasn't a way to get down there other than the crappy long trail. Sighz....I was kinda wishing some one would build a slide halfway and I could just slide down all the way without walking. But in the end, amidst all my grumbling, we managed to reach the end of our trail and the best part was, a yummy seafood dinner was waiting for us. So it wasn't that bad after all. Though, I'm not going to walk the trail again. Next time I'll just take the ferry straight to the seafood place and not stop on the opposite side of the island and having to trek all the way. Haha. I'm so devious.

Crowd enjoying the beach on a warm and sunny day...

Erm...factories beside the beach??? How come everyone seems to be enjoying themselves? Aren't these people afraid of pollution?

Why is My Blog in Chinese?

Aargh!!! Opened my blog today and noticed that it has gone horribly wrong...all the headings are in Chinese!!! Aargh!!! Which chinese monster has weaved a spell on my blog and making so weird? I DON'T UNDERSTAND CHINESE!!! HELP ME!!! Sighz....or maybe it's a sign that I need to start learning chinese since I'm now in HK. I've managed to adapt to the culture of seeing all signs in chinese....seeing chinese newspaper everywhere...browsing through chinese magazines (though I don't understand a word...juz looking at the pretty pictures) BUT I'm certainly NOT NOT READY to have my blog totally transformed with chinese characters.  Anyone knows how I can change things back to normal? HELP ME PUH-LEASE!!!

My New Apartment

I moved into my new apartment yesterday. So happy..... Such a beautiful place though it's still not completely furnished. Still waiting for some other furniture from IKEA which is due to arrive this Saturday. So excited. And I really really love our beautiful red sofa. It's like soooo comfy and makes the whole apartment feels so homey. Hehe....

And I also love my room. Although it's slightly small but think it's enough to put all my stuff. Funny thing bout design of rooms in HK is that they love to have window sills. I mean it's ok to have a big window sill in the living room but to have such a wide window sill in the room??? It takes like bout 1/6 of the room already. Should have just bot a mattress and put it on the window sill. Would have save some money on my bed frame.  But think that the window sill is good if you have nothing better to do and juz want to sit and daydream while observing other people in their rooms (kekeke....good for spying....will go buy a telescope if I happen to see any 'leng chai' in any of the apartments nearby) or walking downstairs.

I've not been blogging for such a long time until I really don't have anything to blog about. Sighz.....will post some pictures soon and let the pictures do the talking.

Hong Kong Wetland Park

I had the opportunity to visit the Hong Kong Wetland Park today. The Hong Kong Wetland Park is located at Tin Shui Wai, New Territories. It was kinda far from Hong Kong Island but the visit there was worth it. Hong Kong Island is so congested with tall buildings...it's nice to be able to see so much greenery...and with an entry fee of only HKD30...it's a great place to relax and unwind and to breathe fresh air...

The first thing we saw was Pui Pui's home...Pui Pui is actually a cute little crocodile...apparently it was found in one of the residential areas in Hong Kong so it was caught and now make its home at the Hong Kong Wetland Park...it has its own little enclosure....it must be sooo much more comfy than wandering around Hong Kong and frightening the poor Hong Kong people. But it's really a pity that people first bought Pui Pui as a pet but just chuck it away when it got bigger and wasn't so cute anymore. Talk about being irresponsible.

Anyway, we started the trail after visiting Pui Pui's home. We waited a while for the guides so that we would know what we were looking at. It was the right decision to wait cos they were really good at explaining and at least it gave us an idea what we were looking at.

The tree above is some kinda fig tree...it's actually called a opposite-leave fig...the reason is cos the leaves actually grow in pairs.

This is a yam tree...there are actually two kinds of yam tree in the picture above. The one that we eat is actually on the right. You can see the leaves with the round water droplets. The reason the water droplets stick to the leave is cos they are a bit furry. The other one with the smooth surface is inedible and is actually poisonous.

I've forgotten the name of this tree but those veins on the leaves are actually due to worms living in between the leaves and eating it.

Beautiful lotus flowers

This flower is really amazing...it's actually yellow in colour...but once a bee sucks its nectar...it will blush and turn a pretty pink...

After a tiring walk along the trail...and it's really really a big place....we had a look around the visitor information centre. It's really a good place for students cos there were a lot of interesting learning tools and information on wetlands and nature. Although I wasn't really paying attention anymore cos I was too tired.......hehe....

All in all it was a good trip and I was glad my colleague invited me to join her. Time for me to zone off soon....really tired...zzzzzzz.....

Things I Notice About Hong Kong

1) It can be very hot one day...and freezing cold the next...

2) People stand on the right side of the escalator instead of the left....I must have annoyed many people who were rushing to go up the escalator....

3) The electrical sockets don't have a switch so it feels a bit dangerous to me...

4) They have all kinda cartoons dubbed into Cantonese...somehow Scooby Doo in cantonese doesn't seem as interesting...I still prefer the original English version...

5) It gets bright very early in the morning...the first day of work I thought my alarm was wrong and I was late....it was actually only 6.30 am in the morning.....

6) Their MTR is really, really long...and can fit really a lot of people....and there are really a lot of people in Hong Kong....and as usual I keep banging into everyone when I walk...not on purpose ah...it's juz too crowded...tee hee...

7) The exit to the MTR can be super super far away....they even hv travelalors on the MTR....felt like I was at the airport......and as usual...the important to remember is...stand at your right hand side....

8) Hong Kong people are very polite...they'll greet you when u enter their shop....although some will give u an unfriendly look if you don't buy anything...

9) Hong Kong people are also very helpful...really thank the hotel employee who helped drag my luggage bag to my room....kinda pity him ler cos my bag is really super duper heavy....haha....

10) Everyone dresses up really well in the office....guys wear suit....not sure if it's because of the cold weather or it's their office culture to be so formal.

11) There are really lots and lots of shopping places...woo hoo...it's like heaven for me...the shopping queen....retail therapy really works here...haha....although at the moment I'm a bit broke....so have to stick to window shopping...which is fun but of course not as fun as buying....

12) The streets are very bright...even at night everywhere is brightly lit so it looks very safe....don't feel afraid to walk home from the MTR at night.

13) The whole place is very clean....can hardly find any rubbish on the streets....

14) Their Guardian is called Mannings.....

15) Their movie ticket is very expensive....at around HKD60....guess I won't be watching any movies in Hong Kong...but then again..the shopping more than make up for it...wuahahhaa....

Rebonding

Just went and rebonded my hair today. Couldn't stand the way my hair was sticking out here, there and everywhere any longer so decided to deal with it once and for all. Went to the salon that I've frequented a few times. My hairdresser is quite yau ying...haha...partly the reason why I've been soooo loyal to that salon rite...... Anyway, he's left-handed and since left handed people are known to be more artistically inclined, I'm juz happy to leave the fate of my hair in his hands. Haha....I made the right decision cos I'm pretty happy with the results....I now have super straight hair d. No more crazy, messy hair. It's best hair day every single day from now on. Yippee!!!

Goodbye 2006 Hello 2007

It's the time of the year again for reflection...in just a few hours 2006 would have come and gone and it would be the start of a new year once again. Everyone loves a bright new start but let us not forget that it is not how we start the race that is important, it is the journey that we embark on that will determine how well we do in life.

For me, new year's resolutions can barely pass the week before they are forgotten. But since I put it in my blog last year, I had no excuse of not being able to remember what my 2006 new year's resolutions are. Well, I can hardly be proud of my achievements in 2006. I just looked at my list, and I'm like so shocked....I've only managed to fulfill one of my plans which is to go for a trip out of Malaysia. Sigh, I can't believe I've wasted the whole of 2006. Of course 2006 hasn't been the greatest year for me but I believe that it is the platform for greater things to be in store for me in the future. Someone once said that we would never know the meaning of happiness if we've never been sad before. So I'm looking forward to lots of happiness in 2007. 2007 is going to be a great year for me with God beside me all the way.

To my family and friends out there, let us look forward to a new year ahead. May 2007 bring joy and happiness to you.

Marriage - To Be Married or Not To Be Married....That Is The Question.....

Haha.....I dunno what prompted me to write this blog....partly due to ppl saying I never update my blog often enough....so just had to think of a topic to write on....and VOILA....out came this topic...or maybe it's the stupid biological clock in my body ticking away and reminding me that it's time for me to look for the special someone.....

Hmm....how come I still don't have that special someone in my life yet? Everyone keeps telling me that I put my expectations too high and that's why I can't find anyone. Somehow, I don't believe this is so. Am I supposed to settle for someone less than perfect just because time is running out? I mean I'm going to spend my lifetime with this person and I don't think that I should just simply make a decision that I may regret later on. I guess I'm a very risk-aversed kind of person. Maybe it's not a good thing....maybe I tend to weigh the pros and cons too much until I miss out on ever being involved in a relationship.

Or probably I've seen many marriages that end up in quarrels that my faith in marriage is very low. What is marriage actually? I feel that marriage is on one hand quite selfish? Why do people get married? To have a companion in our old age? To have kids? Because of love? All these point to one thing only and that is ME ME ME. I don't want to be lonely when I'm old so I get married. I want to have kids so I get married. I want love so I get married. Do people get married for reasons than for themselves? I just can't see it. For those who can, maybe you can enlighten me on this.

Deep down I'm also afraid of getting hurt. I think I've hidden my feelings so long that I've gotten accustomed to it and therefore always hide my true feelings in front of people I'm not particularly closed to. So I guess in the end I portray an Ice Queen personality. Sigh....I just can't help it.

I really dunno what I'm crapping about. Feel sleepy d.....I wanna zzzzz a while. Please dun take my blog seriously. Must be my tired brain crapping all the way.

Btw, am going to make Miso Soup tonight. Hope it turns out well.....my first time cooking....tee hee....wish me luck.

Am I Anti-Social?

My fren juz commented that I spend too much time on the net...he said that I don't have a life...it's unhealthy...dat is sooooo sad....i feel like crying....haha....NOT....is surfing the net UNHEALTHY? I don't think so....I love the net....and it doesn't mean I'm anti-social...i do talk to a lot of people online....so i dun think i can be considered anti-social. Yeah, talking on MSN is of course different than face to face conversations...no doubt that is important....but sometimes talking through the net has its advantages. At least you can think before you speak. If you are right in front of the person, whatever you're thinking shows immediately on your face. For example, let's say you are really irritated with this person who's talking crap....if you're face to face with that person, your facial expression will immediately change.....and you'll probably scream at him/her....but if you're on MSN...you can just scream at the computer screen....and then still write calmly....haha....see how great MSN is....well it doesn't say much bout honesty....but then again....sometimes its better to keep our cool....cos usually we regret the things that come out of our mouth....MSN gives us the chance to think things through before saying it....

So to my fren who said surfing is unhealthy......too bad.....it's my LIFE....hahaha......and I dun like to socialise cos I hate crowds...there u have it...i've said what's on my mind....TOO BAD........

Planes and I

I just don't get it...why is my fate with planes so downright bad? I mean not that I bear any grudges on planes whatsoever, its just so funny that everytime I need to catch a plane...I'm sure to be in some kinda drama. Why???? Don't believe me...read on...

Plane Drama No 1
On my trip to Netherlands, I was stopped by the airline check in counter who requested for the credit card that I used to purchase my airline ticket. Apparently, there were too many fraud cases going around and they need to verify my identity. The great part is, I left my credit cards at home...come on...I'm going on holiday ok...don't want to be carrying so many cards with me. So had a brief tiff with the airline officer but luckily managed to settle it in the end and I had a great holiday in Netherlands. Phew! [Note: Do remember to bring ur credit cards to the airport next time]

Plane Drama No 2
On my trip back from Netherlands, my plane was delayed for over 3 hours....and just when I needed to be back home early to go for my dentist appointment. According to the pilot, there was some engine problem which needed to be sorted out. Talk about luck. Poor me have to wait for 3 hours in the airport. Luckily they have some duty free shops to entertain me but then again wasn't in the mood to shop cos my teeth was hurting like hell.

Plane Drama No 3
On my trip back from Kuantan, I arranged with the cab to come pick me up at 5.30 am cos I need to catch a flight at 6.50 am to get back to KL on time for my course. The great thing was the cab driver couldn't find the way to the house and he couldn't call me cos my hand phone ran out of battery. At 5.35 am, I had no choice but to use my friend's hp to call the guy. That's when he told me he was kinda lost and asked me to wait for him at some supermarket. So I ran all the way to the supermarket with all my luggage. Mind you, the supermarket is not that near. Unfortunately, the cab driver wasn't there so I had no choice but to drag all my luggage back to the house to call him again. Apparently, the particular supermarket is everywhere in Kuantan and he was waiting at another branch. So had to tell him to wait at the branch near the house and there I went huffing and panting to the supermarket once again. I think I nearly had a heart attack. But luckily managed to get to the airport on time.

Plane Drama No 4
On my trip back from Kuantan again, we left the office a wee bit late at 5 pm when the flight was scheduled at 6 pm. The worst part was, Kuantan roads are all single lane and it was just so impossible to overtake the car that is crawling in front. But luckily we managed to get to the airport at around 5.45 pm. Unfortunately, we found out that our luggage was not there yet cos had arranged for someone else to send over the luggage as the car was not big enough to fit 5 luggage bags. Got scolded by the airline officers for taking our own sweet time checking. Hey, it's not our fault. We couldn't check in cos our bags were missing in action. When our luggage arrived, we just ran through to the departure hall. As my bag was not that big, I had no choice but to carry it on board. So the bag had to go through the X-ray machine. I was rushing like crazy that I just left my bag at the counter and ran straight on. All my colleagues were laughing at me for being so blur. Hey, it's not my fault k...my mind was on the ultimate objective...which is to get to the plane on time.  Well, lady luck was still smiling on us....we managed to get ourselves on the plane though we had to face more than 100 pairs of eyes staring at us when we boarded the plane. Hey, the plane wasn't delayed, we still managed to get to KL at 6.30 pm. So, don't blame us.

Am I cursed or what? What does the airline have against me??? I don't think everything was entirely my fault. Hmm...I guess I'll never know. Wait till the next time I take a flight. Hopefully, everything works out well and I don't have to face these dramas again. Tee Hee...

Netherlands Trip - Day 2

I'm back again....after my Kuantan job....not used to the traffic jam and the crowd in KL. Kuantan is such a peaceful town. Everything is so laid back over there....though can't say much bout the shopping over there...

Netherlands Trip - Day 1

I must be the worst blogger around. Never ever update my blog. Horrible. No choice okkies...I'm a busy gal...tee hee...
Anyway, I'm going to blog a bit about my trip to Netherlands. So sad that it's over already and I'm back in Malaysia for work. Aisey...why can't holidays last forever?

For those who aren't aware of my disappearance from 10th Sep to 22nd Sep...I was actually away in Netherlands visiting my sister during that time. Reached Netherlands on Sep 11 (I'm great at choosing dates rite? )...I thought the plane will be empty cos everyone will be trying to avoid flying on that auspicous date but this was certainly not the case. The plane was packed to the brim...no empty seats at all so that means 12 hours of sitting in a cramp airplane without a chance to sprawl my body across the seats...well guess everyone thought with the added security during that time....it would be the best time to fly. So it was juz bad luck for me. Especially more for my grandmother and mom who could never sleep sitting up...luckily I'm the type who can sleep anywhere in any condition...I'm not lazy...I'm just blessed with such a great ability...tee hee...

Anwyay, after reaching the airport, took a train to my sis's town (Utrecht Central) and guess what, the first thing I saw on my way there was the PwC building. Talk about luck...I can't even escape work on my holiday.  Well, of course this did not stop me from enjoying the rest of my holiday. I just pretended I did not see the building. Met my sis at the train station and then took a bus back to her home. The place was great but it has a super steep and narrow staircase up which caused some problems of lugging our heavy luggage. And the super smart interior designer placed the toilet just beside the top of the staircase. So if someone just happened to be standing at the stairway and the person in the toilet opened the door without looking...well, u know the story of Jack and Jill...luckily clumsy me did not fall down.  Since my parents and grandma were still having jet lag, they took a nap while my sis and I went to the nearby park for a walk and snap some photos.

At the Queen Wilhelmina Park - Don't I look chummy with the Queen?

I'm too small...so have to point out my location...hehe...isn't the lake beautiful?

Try and guess what this is...answer will be revealed in the next blog...

Beautiful scenery...

My sis looking cool on a crooked tree branch...I'm a great photographer rite...haha...I know self praise is no praise...but as if I care...this is my blog and I have the right to give praises to myself.

After visiting the park, went back home, my sister cooked dinner, we had dinner, watched some tv and then it was sleep time...an uneventful day but more to come the next day...so continue keeping in touch...though will probably have to wait till i get back from my Kuantan trip to continue the story. Lotsa work to do. Aiks...Anyway, more time for you guys to guess what the picture shows. Do leave a comment if you can guess. Thanks ppl. Muaks.  And if you guessed correctly, might even give u guys a present. Hehe.

FS Day

Had a great day yesterday...well, not working would have already made by day but the day came with extras as well:

a) Fun Paintball Session at NPNG (For those who are wondering what NPNG stands for, it means No Pain No Gain....very appropriate name, don't you think? )

b) Yummy Lunch at Marche @ The Curve

c) Movie @ Cineleisure

d) Other free goodies

Wasn't that nice? Anyway, the day started with the paintball session. We were divided into different teams and the objective of the game was to slaughter the opposing team and grab the flag in the middle of the field. The thought of wearing those stinky protective gear (I mean, how many sweaty bodies have already touched those things and I'm supposed to put them on? Yucks....) was enough to put me off...u still want me to be hit by those coloured pallets and get bruises. No Way! I'm not that stupid. Haha. So I told my team members I'll just be the sniper...they go and run for the flag. Am I smart or what? Though I think my ES think I'm a horrible person and a coward too. Cos there was this particular match when the only person left alive was me...and I surrendered and of course we lost. Hey, I'm not that stupid to go barging into the warfield. I couldn't even see anything...the proctetive eye gear was super super dirty and blur...I was practically blind...I would definitely have been hit by the opposing side. So I did the smart thing and surrendered. Good thing I don't have to attend National Service or I would certainly have to face a living hell. One paintball game and I'm already suffering. Though my smart moves (hiding behind the barriers) ensured that I didn't get a single bruise from the game. My ES will kill me if he hears of this.

San San driving us to NPNG

After a tiring game of paintball

After a tiring and painful game (No Pain No Gain), we went to have lunch at Marche. It was a cute place with different stalls set up like a market and we get to order whatever we like from those stalls. I had a lamb shank, mushroom soup, waffle with toppings (which cost me 2 stamps...though the waffle was super yummy...still feel cheated by it...hehe) and maple walnut ice-cream. Yummy, yum, yum.

 Marche @ The Curve

San San and I at Marche

ES...so surprised at his long bratwurst

Pretending that I like kitchens....hahah....

How I felt after my lunch...

Movie came next after a satisfying lunch. Though I was feeling kinda sleep cos of my full tummy and I planned to take a snooze in the cinema. But the movie (Click) was super funny dat I had no choice but to stay awake. The story was about this guy (acted by Adam Sandler) who was given a universal remote control that he could use to control his life. Click and he could fast forward his life to after his promotion...Click another time and he could fast forward the fight he had with his wife...Click and he could miss those boring family gatherings and get back to his work) But he later found out that doing so has some consequences and living life on Auto-Pilot is not that great after all. Work is after all not the most important thing. What an appropriate show for auditors like us who work until super late and miss out on all family and friends gathering. Hopefully, the bosses who watch the show will get the meaning and ensure that we have some kinda work life balance.  But I truly believe it is us who makes the choice ourselves. We can live a life working our ass off and losing our family and friends in the process or we can take a step back, work moderately but have a richer and more fulfiling life. So a really good movie with a good message behind.

I was super tired after the movie, really felt like dozing off but then the rest of my friends wanted to have more fun. So we made our way to 1 Utame to have a game of bowling. It was my second time bowling...and the first time I played, I was the Queen of the Gutters. So you can sense my enthusiasm at the thought of displaying my skills at the bowling alley...but then I thought...what the heck...juz go and have some fun ler. We split ourselves into 2 groups (14 in each team) and had a tournament whereby the loser has to treat the winner. I was thinking, oh great....I'm going to make my team lose. But I dunno what happened yesterday....must be beginner's luck or something like dat.....I scored 98 points. Not bad for a beginner like me rite....I was super esctatic when I scored a strike. Haha...I'm a non-sports person so winning any game is like a miracle to me.  Really had a great time there. Hehe.

So the day ended pretty well. Tiring but a fun day nonetheless.

Happy Shopping

Went with my parents to Berjaya Times Square yesterday and guess what...Debenhams was having their closing down sales. Guess we Malaysians can't afford to spend our money on pricey European stuff. Anyway, it was great for me that they were closing down cos I get to buy lovely stuff at crazily low prices.

Bought this lovely charm bracelet. Erm...my photography skills is not that great...and so's my photo touching up skills...hopefully they'll improve in time.

Anyway, the bracelet was on 50% discount. Amazing. It was originally priced at RM70 but lucky ole me get to buy it at RM35. What a great bargain. I love those shiny little hearts charm hanging down from the bracelet. And the whole thing is just shiny and bright and light just refract from them. (Hehe...although the rainbow thingy you see in the photo is not real...it's all thanks to Photo Impact.) No choice ler, my photography skills not good, couldn't capture the actual effect so I had to cheat a bit using editing tools.

I also managed to get a pair of lovely court shoes. Now I can go to work fashionably...hehe...

Don't you just love them? Though the original still looks many times nicer than this. And the heals are like super high but the good thing bout expensive shoes are they are really well made and even though the heels are high, they are very stable so when you are wearing them, you hardly feel as if you are in heels. Amazing isn't it. The shoes were originally priced at RM199.90 but I get to buy them at 70% discount which means I got them for RM60. Can you believe that? I'm a happy, happy girl.

So, thanks Berjaya Times Square for having this great sale. You've made me a very happy girl. It was a great and fun shopping trip to celebrate my happiness of passing my exam. I can't keep smiling and giggling at my happy buys. Tee...hee...
